The legendary Guenther Rall, considered by many to be the finest pilot of the German Luftwaffe, met equally feared pilots of "Hub" Zemke's "Wolfpack" over Germany in May, 1944. After taking out two P-47s and nearly downing the famed leader of the 56th Fighter Group, Rall found himself outnumbered and outgunned, and would narrowly cheat death on this fateful day. He went on to become the world's third-highest-scoring ace of all time with 275 aerial victories and form lasting friendships with his onetime American opponents.

Aviation artist John D. Shaw portrays Rall and the pilots of the 56th in a beautiful lithograph that shows the deadly chase that almost ended Rall's career- and his life - and resulted in the destruction of his aircraft and the narrowest of escapes!
