In a snapshot from 1945, Stan Vosburg captures the feeling of an era soon coming to an end. The gleaming new Mustangs stand in rows at North American's Inglewood plant waiting for their transfer to operational units. Much of the defense work force was made up of women who stepped into roles previously held by men now in uniform. An army ferry pilot leans against one of the new fighters to confer with a young lady, one of the many women that worked to keep the defense machine pumping out its vital products.
